Folks, The University of Georgia is here to stay. After falling short in the National Championship, Kirby Smart and company were quick to hit the recruiting trail. The Bulldogs have currently signed twenty-six athletes to their 2018 recruiting class. Not only have they signed a large number of future players, they have also managed to sign the #1 recruiting class in the nation (According to 247Sports), ranking ahead of Alabama, Clemson, Southern California, Ohio State, Penn State, and Texas.
The Georgia Bulldogs have managed to outshine fellow SEC member Alabama on the recruiting trail. Alabama currently has fallen to #6 in this years recruiting rankings. With a small class of nineteen signees, Alabama has struggled to maintain their star-studded recruiting habits.
A possible cause for Alabama’s lowest ranked recruiting class in the Nick Saban era is the presence of the Georgia Bulldogs. The Bulldogs secured the top two offensive guards (Trey Hill and Jamaree Slayer) as well as two of the top three running backs (Zamir White and James Cook). Georgia’s head coach Kirby Smart is simply out-recruiting former boss Nick Saban, taking strong SEC bound talent that in the past would have been secured by Alabama.
It will be interesting to see how each of these teams pan out in the 2018-2019 season. Both retain an excellent coaching staff. Both have top-level talent. It seems that the Georgia-Alabama rivalry is being solidified.
